This help page covers:

How Do I Set Preferences for Non-computer Assignments?

The A+LS system is not limited to delivering just A+LS content. You can also assign lessons where the content is delivered outside of the A+LS system. If you are setting preferences for NEW assignments, then the settings on this page determine the default delivery and completion settings for future non-computer assignments (they do not affect existing assignments).

The first checkbox determines if a student can return to the non-computer assignment after it has been mastered. Normally you will manually enter a score (as you do for Essay questions) so there is no Mastery test for them to reenter later. So leaving this option enabled is normal.

  1. Decide if you want to give access after mastery, and click on the Students can access... checkbox to enable (checked) or disable (unchecked) the function, which ever represents your choice.

The second checkbox option is always turned on, otherwise the non-computer assignment can't appear in a student's assignment list and it serves no purpose.

  2. Decide if you want to Include this assignment, then click on the checkbox to enable (checked) or disable (unchecked) the function, which ever represents your choice.

The two Completion is determined by... settings define what a student must do to complete the non-computer assignment. You can choose from three typical measurements:

Total minutes - An example would be posting the instructions for a project as an assignment. Since you would want the student to spend enough time reading the instructions, completion could be set to Total minutes >= 5 (student must be in the assignment reading it for 5 or more minutes).

Accesses - One good example is a reading assignment from a text book. Since the student just needs to know what pages to read, completion could be Accessing (reading) the assignment once.

Score - As with Essays you can manually enter a score for the assignment. So setting the Score to >=80 (greater than or equal to 80) means that the student would have to score 80% or higher to have completed the assignment. Please keep in mind that if you use a manually entered score and have set the assignment list to be done in order and only the current assignment shows, then the student will not be able to start the next lesson until you have graded the non-computer assignment.

If you leave both of the Value text boxes set at "0" then there will be no completion requirements for new non-computer assignments.

  3. Either, proceed to the next step to set the completion requirements.

            OR

Skip to the last step to exit the page.

  4. Click on the Factor 1 drop box and select the appropriate measurement.

  5. In the Factor 1 Value text box type the appropriate number.

  6. If you want to setup a second completion requirement, then click on the Factor 2 drop box and select the appropriate measurement.

  7. If you are configuring Factor 2, then enter the appropriate number in its Value text box.

The final choice is between two radio button options that determine whether the student must meet one or both of the completion requirements.

  8. Read the two options, then click the radio button that reflects your choice (only one can be selected at a time).

  9. Either, click on the Finished button to retain your changes and return to the previous menu.

            OR

Click on the Undo My Changes button, which returns the settings to the state they were in when you first opened this page.

            OR

Click on the Cancel button to return to the previous menu without saving your changes.
