Overview of Viewing and Printing Reports

The A+LS report engine is easy to use because you follow a logical series of four steps. There are dozens of reports to choose from and most allow you to select qualifying information to focus your report. You can choose from a wide range of options, such as a broad overview of class-wide performance or generate a detailed profile of a single student's progress.

The four steps through View and Print Reports are:

Step 1 - Selecting the Type of Report

Step 2 - Choosing the Qualifying Information

Step 3 - Reviewing the Report

Step 4 - Printing the Report

Step 4 - Printing the Report

The Printer Friendly Version of the report opens in a new browser window and only displays the information you want printed (no A+LS toolbar or on screen instructions). Plus the new window includes the menu bar and toolbar from your browser, giving you access to the printing commands.

Hint - It is recommended that you use the menu bar commands rather than the toolbar's Print button. The toolbar button typically sends the report straight to the printer without offering you any print options. The menu bar's File/Print command will permit you to see a preview of how it will fit on the paper, print specific pages, turn the paper for wide reports, and much more.

  1. On the menu bar at the top of the window, click on File, then on Print Preview.

          The Print Preview window opens.

  2. Verify that the report appears correct, this is your last chance before you commit the report to paper.

  3. Close the Print Preview window, using either a Close button on the toolbar or the close window button in the upper-right corner of the window (Windows) or upper-left corner (Macintosh).

  4. On the menu bar select File, then Print.

The Print dialog box opens, which includes a number of options including:

Choosing to print all of the pages of the report or just selected ones. This option is typically found in the left side of the dialog box (Windows and Macintosh).

Printing multiple copies of the report. This option is typically found in the right side of the dialog box (Windows and Macintosh).

Printing the page in portrait mode (the normal way, where the page is taller than it is wide) or in landscape mode (where the paper is turned and is thus wider than it is tall). Landscape mode is great for reports that are too wide to fit on the paper normally. This option is typically found under the Properties button (Windows 9x) or in Options (Windows 2000/XP and Macintosh).

  5. If necessary make any changes to the Print settings.

  6. Either, if you are ready to print, click on either the Print button (Windows 2000/XP and Macintosh) or the OK button (Windows 9x).

            OR

If you aren't satisfied with the report settings you can avoid printing by clicking on the Cancel button (Windows and Macintosh).

  7. Close the Report Printout window, using the close window button in the upper-right corner of the window (Windows) or upper-left corner (Macintosh).

  8. Back at the report preview page you can either:

Click on the Finished button to return to the first report menu where you can choose a different report.

            OR

Click on one of the Management Toolbar commands to move on to another management task.
