Overview of Checking and Setting Progress

There are five major steps through the complete Progress process, though you'll only need to go through all of them if you wish to grade an essay. This page deals with step 2, reviewing the student's progress on the currently selected assignment. The student and assignment names are listed at the top of the page along with the date assigned and the current status (whether completed or mastered).

The five steps through Check and Set Progress are:

Step 1 - Selecting the Student and Assignment List to Check

Step 2 - Reviewing the Progress Report

Step 3 - View Essay

Step 4 - Review and Comment on Essay

Step 5 - Score Essay

Step 2 - Reviewing the Progress Report

On this page the primary task is to review the student's progress for the current assignment. Essays that need to be scored will appear as bolded text in the report. Additionally you have the option to mark the assignment as (M)astered. Manually marking an assignment as mastered overrides the A+LS system settings (giving you, the teacher, the final say).

  1. Verify that you have selected the appropriate student by checking the name at the top of the page, and the correct assignment which is listed two lines below the name.

  2. Using the scroll bars if necessary, review the student's progress report.

Normally a perfect score is 100/100, which is a score of 100, out of a maximum possible score of 100 points (note some assessments may offer a higher Maximum Score). If a Mastery Test indicates that both the Score and the Max. Score are "0", then it is an incomplete test that has been bookmarked.

The next step is optional, decide if you want to Set this assignment as mastered.... Please note that assignments lists can be marked as completed on the first Progress page.

  3. Optional - If you have decided that the student has mastered the assignment, even though he or she hasn't satisfied the score requirements, then place a checkmark in the Set this assignment as mastered... checkbox.

  4. Either, if your goal was simply to mark the assignment (M)astered then you may choose one of the Management Toolbar commands to proceed with other tasks.
