There are six major steps through the process of creating a new assignment list. You'll only need to go through all of them if you wish change the default assignment list settings. While this may initially seem daunting, the steps are simple and logical and will become quite natural with practice.
If you want to create a Learning Letter Sounds assignment list, please click here. Due to the special nature of the curriculum, the procedure quite different and much simplier.
The six steps through creating a new assignment list are:
Step 1 - Name and Assign the List to a Class
Step 2a - Add Lessons by Subject
Step 2b - Add Lessons by Standard
Step 3 - Settings for Assignment Lists
Step 4 - Deciding to Add More Lessons or Assign List to Students
Step 5 - Assign Students to the Assignment List
You may have noticed that there are two Step 2s. This is because you have a choice when adding lessons to the list. You can add them conventionally, selecting a subject module (such as Mathematics V), then a lesson from the module (such as Decimals 2). You can also add them by standard (such as the Arizona Academic Standards). Typically a teacher will favor one method over the other, but you can create a list with lessons from both sources.
Hint -
You can view the content of all lessons as a student would by using the Preview Lessons command on the toolbar.
On this the first page of creating a new assignment list you will name the list, then choose the class where the list will reside.
• Assignment list names can include letters, numbers, dashes, and spaces. If you normally organize assignments by semester weeks you could name the first assignment list "Week One". You can also use project oriented names, such as "The Age of Exploration - part 1".
1. In the Please enter the name... text box enter the name of the new assignment list.
• The next task is to choose your school and the class to receive the assignment list. Please keep in mind that you are not actually assigning the list to any students at this time. You are just choosing the class where the list will be stored.
2. Click on the Select the school... drop box and choose your school.
3. Choose the Select the class... drop box to display your classes.
4. Using the scroll bar if necessary, click on the class where the assignment list will be stored.
• The final task on this screen is to choose the source of the lessons that will populate the assignment list. Your two choices are:
Add lessons by Subject - Select lessons first by A+LS subject module then by individual lesson. You can also set the order of the lessons.
Add lessons by Standard - On the first page you select the standard (typically a state academic standard), then focus on the desired curriculum area and level. On the second page all of the related A+LS lessons will appear, available for assigning to the list. You can also determine the order that they will appear in the list.
5. Either, choose the Add lesson by Subject which will take you to Step 2a - Add Lessons by Subject.
OR
Select the Add lesson by Standard which will open Step 2b - Add Lessons by Standard.
OR
Click on the Cancel button to return to the previous menu without saving your changes.
