At the top of the page are two settings that are global, affecting all of your NEW assignments within the A+LS system regardless of whether they are ALS Lessons, Assess tests, or Review tests. The two settings cover:
Language setting radio buttons - A+LS lessons can be displayed either in the language that they were written in or they can be displayed in other languages. This set of radio buttons determines which setting defines the language to be used.
• Use the student's default language... - The student's language setting overrides the lesson's setting.
• Match the user interface... - The lesson settings determine the language used.
Test setting radio buttons - They define how partially completed tests are handled.
• Don't save work... - Partially completed tests are discarded.
• Allow the students to return... - Permits the student to finish a partially completed test at a later time.
Step-by-Step - Changing Information Using Radio Buttons
Radio buttons are used to answer either/or questions with two or more options. Only one option can be enabled at any given time.
1. Carefully read the question or setting's statement, then carefully consider each of the options (each with its own radio button).
2. Click on the radio button that best represents your choice.
3. Consider the next setting's question or statement, then use the mouse to select the appropriate radio button setting.
4. When you have finished setting radio buttons you can select one of the Set preferences... options (covered below).
OR
Click on the Finished button to retain your changes and return to the previous menu.
In addition to the two sets of radio buttons (covered above) there are four types of assignments that can be configured. You can also select Finished to return to the previous preferences menu. Please keep in mind that these setting only affect NEW assignments and assignment lists created after you change the settings. Also remember that you can override these settings at the time you assign a lesson to a student.
Hint - Existing assignment parameters are changed while reviewing an assignment list. Watch for the Assignment Settings button at the bottom of some list-related screens.
Set preferences for ALS Lesson assignments - Configure settings for lessons added by both subject and standard.
Set preferences for Assess assignments - Define whether tests are pre-tests or posttests. You can also decide what happens after an Assess test is complete. Should the test prescribe lessons and if so should they go in new or existing assignment lists? You can also set the depth of testing (how many grade levels the smart testing should pursue).
Set preferences for Non-computer assignments - The A+LS system allows you to add non-computer-based assignments, such as textbook reading assignments, project instructions, etc. On this page you can set the default completion requirements and if the non-computer lessons can be accessed after they are complete.
Set preferences for Review assignments - Set the mastery requirements for Review tests and how many questions should be presented. A key parameter is whether or not the test should be drawn from all of the assignments in the list or just from those since the last Review test.
Finished - This command returns you to the Set Up Assignments main menu.
